General Description
Matagami, "Gateway to James Bay Territory", offers an incomparable way of life for a town of 2,000 residents. Most of the same services that are offered in big cities are available here, a subject of envy for many. A health centre, a CLSC, a youth centre, daycare, residences for the elderly are some of the services available in Matagami. Education also occupies an important place with a primary school, a high school, an adult education centre and the possibility to use the Internet. Access to property is one of the most important advantages. It is possible to acquire a house for a fraction of the price of what one would pay in any other town in Quebec for a house of the same quality. Municipal programs are in place to support construction and exterior renovations. Here are a few elements which make Matagami an outstanding place.
Matagami is a safe place to live, offering remarkably modern infrastructures. Recent investments have been made to improve the municipal arena and major renovations have been done at the civic centre during the last few years. It is possible to join one of several hockey leagues for very young to not so young players. Moreover, the civic centre houses a theatre, a renovated bowling alley, a restaurant and a swimming pool, all first quality accomodations. These services are easily accessible and the costs are minimal. There is also a municipal library with more than 13,000 books!
