By plane

It should be noted that there is presently no regular flight to Matagami. The closest destination by plane is Val-d'Or and from there, a 251 km drive by road is necessary to reach Matagami.

It is possible however, to use the existing airstrip for free. We strongly advise you to consult with the Deparment of Transport before departure to make sure the airstrip can be used. Advice and useful information

Here is some specific advice for northern regions:

  • Please note that cellular telephone services are not available on the Matagami / Amos road;

  • Always keep a survival kit including a snow shovel, candles, an axe, matches, replacement fan belt, gaz line deicer and additional warm clothing;

  • It is sometimes difficult to pick up radio stations during your trip. Bring your own music;

  • In summer, don't go in the bush without insect repellent;

  • In winter, keep cameras and video equipment warm, because when the temperature is very cold, these don't function properly and the batteries die up in no time;

  • Make sure your car is in good condition, since several stretches of road are isolated over several kilometers;

  • To unexperienced travellers in our area, we advise against using logging roads as shortcuts to save a few kilometers. These roads could have some nasty surprises in store for them. Important telephone numbers:
